Miura Passing Point PP 9005

Coming this month to the TSG Pro Shop the all new Miura Giken Passing Point PP-9005 Forged Cavity Irons,  labelled NEO this time it's a big departure from how Miura irons have been made in the past,  This is the first multipiece design I can remember from Miura that has a Forged S25C body that is separate from the face which is a  J.I.S SUP-10 Steel.  The PP-9005 also comes with a  deep undercut cavity lowering the center of gravity and also allowing Miura to gain more head size without gaining as much head weight which equals the more forgiving Miura everyone has been asking for.

Miura Giken also has a new finish that uses a separate surface treatment called Accurise Coat which is supposed to reduce friction during turf contact.  On top of this they also feature a full copper underlayer for an even softer feel.

While this undercut/badge/2 piece iron is  new to Miura it also brings in a more modern look like the inside of the cavity which features a carbon style badge that gives it some extra edgeyness but at the same time that comes off looking a little cheap to some.. what has remained is Miura's commitment to minimal offset, a beautiful shape,  geared toward the better player and in in the case of the new Passing Point Neo PP-9005 that is no different.  In hand photos are and course reviews are  just a week or two away.

RomaRo Alpha Series Driver

RomaRo Alpha Series - RomaRo Sports has come out with an entirely new line up labelled "Alpha"  Today after about 3 rounds and some help from playing partners we can review their new flagship driver.  Available in Silver or Gold with the difference being the Gold is non conforming aka HOT and only available in 10.5 with a 0.5* closed face angle.

The Alpha SLE (silver) also has a 9.5* loft and comes standard at square face,  both are 460cc's with a 58* lie angle.  So far we have tested the new RomaRo Alpha Silver in a couple of different shafts including the new TRPX Aura Stiff and also the Basileus AAA 60 Stiff so as far as premium shaft options go we have tried them.  Ready for the review?  Follow the Jump Please...

RomaRo Alpha Drivers

Who is this for?  It's geared to the player who wants a full size 460cc mid/high launch semi low spin driver.  Who is that?  It's the usually a mid handicap player who swings under 100mph the lower spin will help straighten the shot and reduce ballooning while at the same time it's shallow face aids in getting the ball up.

The face seems a little small and shallow in size for a 460 but what's interesting is how straight mis-hits fly,  overall it's incredibly forgiving across the majority of the impact area.  This is one of the key features as the face is a new Forged Cup  TVC Titanium and what RomaRo has done is completely re-design the behind the face structure so it's thicker in the center and across symmetrical beams to the toe and heel what this does is spread forgiveness across the entire hitting zone helping you stabilize mistakes made.

RomaRo Golf Sports Ray Alpha

The rest of the head consists of a forged thin crown made of 15-3-3-3 which is a rather common material as well as a 6-4Ti body which we also see often but the crowns three-piece structure is a very thinly forged making it only 0.4mm thick which causes the crown to flex creating an almost spring-like effect for a high launch and low spin for more distance. The excess weight by having such a thin forged crown allowed RomaRo's designers to place more weight deep and low.

I don't know how all that plays out in the real but I can say the entire face seems forgiving,  the driver has great distance and RomaRo has played a very smart move in creating what seems to be what most golfers need most,  a driver that launches high with low spin and a face that is forgiving from most spots struck.  The shallow back that lifts high off the ground is a cool technique hidden to help raise the CG so really this driver is not only designed for the player who needs game improvement like performance,  the new RomaRo Alpha does a nice job at hiding low spin,  higher CG characteristics very well so you feel comfortable with all aspects of it's design and ultimately it's performance.

TRPX Aura Shaft

We paired it first with the Basileus AAA 60 Stiff Limited 2015 version,  very straight and slightly too low but the roll itself was an easy 20yds.  still we felt we could get more out of it so we installed the new TRPX Aura which is much like this driver,  designed for a more aggressive swing but has some very player friendly attributes this shaft is one of the best we found for the Ryoma Maxima and many other heads so putting into the RomaRo was something we knew we would do eventually and we are glad we did the launch I would describe as mid/high where as the AAA was just mid,  the kick the Aura gives in the tip is active yet it's considered a tip stiff shaft, the result was about 5yds more carry than the AAA and a little less roll so distance wise it was a wash between the two shafts but the trajectory just seemed "right" with the Aura.

Tested with my swing approx 99mph and my coaches swing 115-120mph it was obvious that his speed could easily overpower the Aura yet with the AAA it help up better for his power so while both shafts worked better for me it was good to see that this head did very well for faster swingers with no ballooning whatsoever.

RomaRo Alpha Ray Driver

Distance:  A - The combo of low spin and high launch make the new Alpha a pleasure to hit,  watch the ball fly high off the face with a tighter dispersion and together it equals great distance given the shaft and build is ideal for your swing.

Forgiveness: B+ - Almost the entire face felt like a sweet spot,  the least forgiving zone was the toe,  but still better than most!  off the heel distance and dispersion was still tight.

Feel: B - One of the better feeling drivers,  the forged cup face and forged crown just sends the right vibration up the hands,  it's sound is a soft metal crunch with a slight hollow accent to it.   Really nice feel at impact.

Trajectory:  A -  High launch with low spin is where driver design needs to go for most players and RomaRo has dialed this in,  Depending on the shaft you choose you can turn this into a high or mid trajectory driver or somewhere in between,  some of us have been getting too low with Jbeam or too high with Ryoma as those two heads can be a bit deciving when it comes to trajectory/loft/shaft selection but with the new RomaRo Alpha it's in the middle and you can rely on a mid/high for most swings with no ballooning.

Dispersion: B+ - not ZY-11 tight but it's straighter than most and thank the low spin for that.

Honma TW727 M Blade Combo Set

Honma TW727 Vn

XF5A0642-Edit-2

You are looking at the Ultimate Honma Tour World Combo Set.  Click "Read More" to Continue...

Prior to the release of the Honma Tour World TW727 Series TSG planned what would be our dream Honma iron set utilizing everything that Honma's Sakata Factory had to offer and this is what we came up with.

This Combo set is 4-PW  It is TW727P in only the #4,  It is the new TW727Vn #5 thru 7 and 727M #8 - PW.   All of the lie angles,  loft,  swing weight and length are adjusted to flow properly for consistency throughout the set.

As you notice the finish is very different this is Honma's Black Nickel Chrome and it's stunning even more so in person this is a durable plating with a soft sticky feel at impact when you hit the MB's center with the Black Nickel it feels like a warm club face hitting a cold dense stick of butter the ball just melts.

We requested a custom order only Vizard IB105 which is the heaviest Vizard they make it's 103-105 grams and made of high grade Carbon with an Amorphous metal fiber weaved into the tip section for the best of Carbon with the accuracy of steel.  Warning to anyone who considers these softer than steel because they play firm and are obviously for players who want a lower more accurate penetrating trajectory and dispersion.

RomaRo Golf Alpha Fairway and Alpha Utility Woods

RomaRo Alpha Fairway Wood 2015

RomaRo Alpha Fairway Wood - The entire series of Alpha woods contains the same DNA,  easy to hit, long, very straight forgiving and higher launching I think that wraps it up nicely it's forged cup face and stainless 17-4 body make for a satisfying sound at impact.

It's shallow face looks as though you can get airborne well and that inspires confidence a low center of gravity help with picking the ball off turf it's flatter more rounded sole slides very well.  In this post we have both the Fairway & Utility to talk about so please continue to read on...

RomaRo Alpha Fairway Wood

Talk about shallow face I'm hitting this club now with the TRPX Red Hot Fairway Wood Type-S Shaft,  the launch is high and it gets up effortlessly which is great for a 3 wood this combo produced high draws with very long distance,  in testing we noticed sweepers making the best most consistent contact I think because the sole is longer it glides against the grown for longer.

But very great feel,  nice metal pop that isn't loud but nor soft it's forged feeling and very satisfying,  better than most.  Looking down at it you can tell it's got size although its really not the biggest it's 190cc's in the #3 and 178/#5W - 169/#7W- 169/#9W.  Because its so thin and flattened out one could say it's actual volume remains low but just look at this photo and visually it looks very easy to hit.

RomaRo Alpha Ray Series

Inside the head it's got all the goods,   variable sole thickness,  variable face thickness,  this one is high tech so if your looking for a low spin,  high launch,  easy to get up,  forgiving and long fairway wood it could be the ticket.  shaft is important and the TRPX Red hot did not disappoint although I had to slow the swing down and smooth my tempo this combo produces as much if not more distance than me swinging full with my other 3 wood which is a Modart 14 w/ FW80 or A-Grind 14 w/FW80Regenisis.  TRPX nice graphics though!

TRPX Red Hot

Romaro Alpha Utility Wood - Below you have the new Alpha UT,  not much to say other than it's similar in design to the fairway wood,  it's got the same technology and materials Forged Cup, Variable thick everything and made for the same type of performance high launch, low spin.

Made available in 18/21/24/27 they also have a square face angle.  The standard shafts are NS950GH Stiff and the Carbon RJ-TC in Stiff/SR/Regular but of course TSG.

RomaRo Alpha Utility

I shafted this one up with the TRPX UT-7 which is a dedicated hybrid shaft that is really stable and firm feeling in softer flexes.   It's slightly firmer in sound and feel than the fairway wood which is due to the smaller head size,  it gets up easily and does remind of the Type-R by Romaro which by comparison flies lower has a deeper face but still has a unique ability to clip the ground perfectly making it easy.

This higher launch made it easier to land soft on greens even with this shaft.  I consider it very straight and accurate just really well done and both the new FW and UT I suggest if you need help getting airborne and this translates to the driver as well,  high launchers with low spin all day.  Please enjoy the rest of the pictures you can find the new RomaRo Alpha Series Golf Clubs in the TSG Pro Shop by "Clicking Here".

SEVEN | Double Milled Wedge Coming Soon…

SEVEN | Double Milled Forged Wedge

XF5A1407-Edit-Edit

(Above: Black Oxide with Gold Paint Fill)

Introducing the new SEVEN Double Milled Wedge which officially goes on sale today in two finishes to choose from as well as two lofts 52* & 58*. Both lofts share that M Style grind which was a different way to do things as usually the approach wedge has less trailing edge, toe and heel relief but we felt that offering an approach wedge with a similar grind to the SW so players can open the face to hit a higher approach with more spin.

These wedges are Forged of SS400 in Kyoto and hand ground in Himeji Japan we then send the heads to golf specific plating companies to apply it's beautiful finish after that the heads are sent to Tokyo where TSG's master club makers  polish, add paint fill and assemble.

XF5A1491-Edit

(Above: NiCr Brushed Satin with Translucent Red Paint Fill)

And yet the most intriguing part of the SEVEN Double Milled Wedge is it's aggressive face milling,  Follow the Jump to see what extreme face milling is all about...

XF5A1517-Edit

Aggressive isn't it?  So normally you would think it's the dual pass face milling that creates a silly amount of spin but actually that comes secondary to it's CNC milled deep box grooves, they are considered non-conforming to say the least.  SEVEN has been working on a unique groove pattern combined with a grind that any "wedge guy" would have a blast hitting, lay it open, flop it,  insane spin even in wet conditions have fun :)

XF5A1525-Edit

XF5A1435-Edit-Edit

Thin top line,  semi compact in size it features a low neck transition with a slight tear drop shape we started our testing from the very basics using heads with no grooves,  light grooves,  single milled,  pressed conforming and non confoming grooves and the final result can shred covers off balls,  keep the grooves free of dirt and your chances of back spin have just increased.

The milling process is done by hand not computer so each wedge has a small degree of variance in the way the milling looks.

XF5A1511-Edit

XF5A1420-Edit

The Black Oxide finish will wear nicely and over time turn to a black and dull silver-grey look mostly in the impact area and sole.  side by side in the same loft the black head looks smaller and it also reflects less glare during peak hours.  As for feel it's a toss up the make up of the NiCr satin finish has a nice feel at impact and for those like their clubs to always look prestine the brushed satin is the way to go,  also translucent paint fills show really well satin.

XF5A1487-Edit

XF5A1417-Edit-2

The sole grinds were designed for the wedge players delight  they are soft and designed completly around manipulating,  opening, and chipping with loads of spin.  The 52* with this style grind is really nice.

XF5A1474-Edit-Edit

XF5A1407-Edit-Edit

These retail for $500 per set of two heads in the TSG Proshop starting today, they come in a beautiful black seven box and shipped inside another box,  they can be custom built with the largest selection of shafts and grips from Japan.   Talking about cool looking builds I think the DG Tour Issue ONYX wedge shaft and a matte black NO.1 limited grip is stealth or even the satin head with translucent fill that matches the grip and ferrule.

RYOMA “BEYOND POWER” DRIVER

Ryoma Beyond Power Driver

BEYOND POWER by Ryoma Golf is a shaft specially designed to produce the highest smash factor possible.  Ryoma offers excellent standard shafts that compliment the Maxima heads even better than aftermarket shafts.  This new Beyond Power utilizes a new technology we are seeing used more frequently in the Japan Golf Shaft Industry known as "multi-kick"  this allows companies that have used it like Fujikura and Jbeam to produce what Ryoma calls "Infinity Flex"  which is supposed to add an average of 2.7mph to your head speed.  Ready to read more?  Please follow the Jump...

Ryoma Maxima Drivers

The Beyond Power Shaft is made by Graphite Design and designed in collaboration with Ryoma's designers,  the wildest thing about it is that it works well for golfers who swing as slow as 67mph all the way up to 111mph which is something I have a hard time believing and while we could not find a player who swings that slow we were able to test it from 83mph up to 115mph and surprisingly their claims were accurate.

What was shocking is the slower swingers thought it was light and flexible while the fast swingers said it was heavy and firm at impact but how could this be,  it's really due to the multi kick,  if each kick point flexes in a certain sequence at a particular speed it fires off the next kick point.  This has been seen in other long drive shafts like Jbeams ZY-11 has a Yamazaki Pro Shaft that is infinity flex just as Fujikura has their Air Speeder.

Ryoma Beyond Driver

High handicap ladies can play it and even the faster-swinging scratch golfer can consider this shaft and that's why Ryoma has made it in two lengths,  45.5" and 46.5" and playing it longer does give you a few more yards.   The Maxima has a 35mm hosel depth which some consider shallow but it's technically normal the tip section and kick points seem to make this driver fly nice and straight  something about it's timing helps square the club face up regardless of the tempo your swinging it at.

The way you decide on the head is based on your swing,  The faster swingers can choose  the 45.5" Type-V in 9.5 while the slowest the gold finished Type-G which comes with a closed face and lighter standard head weight,  the Type-D is for the average player,  it's about a half degree closed with a silver finish and what Ryoma considers an average head weight so there you have it Black, Silver, and Gold.   Lastly there is the "Special Tuning Driver" this is a head that is non conforming which Ryoma claims has 300 less rpm's average yet the face is much hotter for more distance and if you combine the Special Tune with the Beyond Power shaft you have what is Ryoma's longest distance combo.

Type D: Mirror Chrome, Crystal Black Crown - 9.5* 0.5* Closed, 10.5 11.5* 1.0* Closed
Type G: Gold IP, Crystal Black Crown - 9.5* 0.5* Closed, 10.5 11.5* 1.0* Closed
Type V: Black IP, Crystal Black Crown - All lofts feature square face angles

Ryoma Golf

About the Maxima Driver:  it's a high launch low spin canon made using their Monocoque body construction  high strength titanium TX Forged body with a Forged CNC Multi-beam cup face More than 90% of the D-1's body walls are only 0.35mm thick which by industry standards is pretty much nearly half the thickness of most drivers on the market today.

construction

Ryoma decided to design the Maxima body with more elasticity especially in the crown and sole sections which they respectively call the spring crown and spring sole. Once again they use what they call DSI or Deep Strong Impact which features a huge 60g power booster weight at the back of the head but this time balanced with a 12g weight at the leading edge of the face which they call a low spin control unit.

springback1

When the golf ball strikes the face of the Maxima, the inertial energy from the impact is repelled by the inertial energy from the power booster causing both the spring crown and spring sole to flex. This creates what Ryoma calls the worlds thinnest Spring Body driver head which in turn creates more trampoline effect not only from the face of the driver but the entire head as in compresses and then shoots the ball out with increased initial ball speeds even on off center hits. You can see this illustrated in the image above.

impacttime

The spring body actually absorbs the energy from the ball allowing to "stick" to the face during impact longer than other drivers. What this allows is for more energy to be transferred back to the ball and then that trampoline effect. Ryoma measures this Impact Time by using a super high speed camera capable of capturing a whopping 250,000 frames per second!  The chart above shows the Maxima's impact time to be 5.4/10,000th of a second versus 3 other unnamed drivers.  I can only assume since the Maxima is conforming that this number is close or right at the maximum CT or Characteristic Time used by the USGA to measure the amount of time a golf ball stays in contact with the driver face (CT as I have explained before is a component of COR). Higher CT means that the face is more elastic and has more of that trampoline effect.  Also in the image above you can see how the same ball compresses more on the Ryoma and the thermal images showing more energy transferred back into the all thanks to the longer time it hangs on the face.

Ryoma Golf Special Tune

The Maxima drivers can be purchased as heads only with weights varying from 189g to 200/201g thanks to the ability now to change a small weight in the back of he head under the power booster. Ryoma added the weight adjustability to avoid hot melting/foaming/gelling of the head to increase weight and which in turn could dull/muffle the feel of the head. The Maxima is very hot feeling at impact and they want to keep it this way, because of this they made the back weight adjustable to compensate for the need for heavier weight.  Best part is TSG is able to request hand picked lofts and sometimes face angles,  we also install shafts and use the weight kit to keep everything well balanced.

NUD GHIBLI Knight Driver

NuD Ghibli Driver

Introducing the NUD GHIBLI Driver and as I can imagine most of you are saying "What is NUD?"  Nud is part of the Baldo and Baldo is a Japanese Golf Brand that has been around in Japan for almost 10 years known for producing some very cool and stealth looking designs from drivers to putters.

Nud offers 2 different designs of drivers this new Knight Driver that is available in conforming or non ready to see more pics?  Follow the Jump...

Nud Golf Clubs

The Ghibli Knight is 445cc's and comes with a square face angle,  the lofts are offered anywhere between 10-12* ( TSG offers hand picked heads )  Standard head weight is 196g.

The Ghibli is designed for low back spin and a mid-high trajectory,  it's face is semi-shallow made of a heat treated forged titanium cup face which is the way to go as they always feel great at impact and produce more RBI.  It's sole design is very dark knight like most of Baldo's drivers stealth and also similar is the weight ports that can be adjusted to increase or reduce head weight using Nud/Baldo tungsten weights.

ghibli-image02b

The weights and wrench are sold separately in 2/4/5/8 grams and considering it's 196g standard weight you can get it much higher,  the 2 weight ports represent the ability to adjust the draw bias from nothing to something and the upper larger weight is to position the CG more forward,  it's a thoughtful design putting both weights together like that so one would use the lighter weight in the upper port to reduce spin and lower the ball flight.  One negative is they do not sell or provide the wrench and when asked why they said why charge 40 dollars for a hexagon wrench that costs $5 from the hardware store.

XF5A2827-Edit-Edit

Face profile is shallow at the edges semi deep in the center,  I was able to test this for a few range sessions using the Basileus AAA 60 Stiff and the performance is phenomenal partially for shaft but the combo works the spin is indeed low and the launch while upper it's not high at all again a trait of this shaft but it's got the same great feel as Baldo's 911 series drivers yet more forgiving, rounded, slightly larger and a higher launching package.

Feel at impact was rewarding thanks to a forged cup face,  it's a not all that loud or hollow and from address it looks 460cc even though it's 445cc  ( smaller than the Jbeam Blackout 435 by 3cc's )  Light-Soft-Metallic was my experience of it using some fairly new callaway range balls and a wooden tee.

XF5A2848-Edit-Edit

Distance is up there with the best of them,  fit and finish on the Ghibli is very nice and the trajectory was medium high penetrating with plenty roll ( this shaft does this )  I wasn't swinging all that great but fortunately that allowed me to test bad shots and what I noticed is the face was very forgiving on the heel and high toe but not so much low toe,  if the players miss-hits are high or low on the face that extra depth or buldge helps,  our second club tester  carries a 110+ mph swing,  while he over powered the shaft and the club head was too high a loft for him it was very long he noted and felt really good impact.

XF5A2855-Edit-Edit

XF5A2849-Edit

Nice address,  very sqaure face and right about where I like my drivers to be in size,  TSG does offer this head only or with a custom shaft so feel free to email us at info@tourspecgolf.com to discuss your custom build or checkout the TSG ProShop listing (Here) for more information.

Introducing | SEVEN 64* Original Wedges

Seven Golf

The evolution of the brand continues,  introducing the all new SEVEN Original Series 64* Wedge an idea born in the forums of TSG by member request while at the same time our brand SEVEN was producing a new wedge grind specifically suited for 60* lofts.

This new grind is designed with the purpose of making high lofted wedges sit without rocking open yet still let you open the face.  ready to see more pics?  Follow the Jump to Continue...

XF5A3552-Edit-Edit

It's no doubt a specialty wedge designed for some very particular situations where 64* of loft can be utilized it's great out of greenside bunkers and perfect for hitting short and high soft landing shots,   Our goal was to produce a 64* wedge that would stay in the bag over the long term not just be some gimmicky loft.

The thought process was that the new 64* had to first and foremost be as easy to hit as we can make it without compromising a shape and size,  one of the flaws we noticed in todays more extreme grind wedges is the 60* often rocks open too easily by simply laying it flat or even the slightest hand adjustment where as approach wedges are designed to sit flatter and more square to the target line so we basically made an approach style grind with just the perfect amount of trailing edge relief to open it slightly.

XF5A3526-Edit-Edit

The result is what we consider to be the best 64* made to date,  of course there are others out there like the ONOFF Leap Frog which while cast is very unique with compelling design that and lofts up to 70*!!  then also the Callaway Mack Daddy PM-Grind which in my opinion is a really good forward thinking design and shape.  But those both are a tad funky for some.

However the SEVEN 64* Original Wedge can also take pride in where it's made,  it's materials and our friends in Himeji Japan who manufacture these clubs by hand and have been perfecting the art of golf head grinding for over a generation which is not something that can be mass produced.

XF5A3538-Edit-Edit

The shape sublime and it carries a touch of onset,  see when making a 64* it requires a high lofted mold, bending, and a skillful grinder to pull it off the 64* had to be beautiful at address and not funky it had to look like your 56 or 58*,  it had to produce consistent results,  it had to feel soft,  it had to spin like no other...  And spin it does!

XF5A3580-Edit-Edit

Non conforming grooves that's right this isn't for anyone playing competitive golf or USGA sanctioned events or posting to their handicap this is for your enjoyment and being able to do new things,  besides you probably already have a half dozen conforming wedges in your garage part of your collection.

XF5A3571-Edit-Edit

Our new golf-specific brushed satin finish is very durable it's still soft  and has a brighter sheen to it that still does enough to reduce shine during mid days sun,  paint fill is a translucent red.

Now available in the TSG Pro Shop as head only or you can inquire with info@tourspecgolf.com to order it assembled with the best shaft and grip options available anywhere in the world.

Custom finishes are available from TSG-Clubworks but I would say nothing beats the quality and look of our new NiCr Bright Satin.  Custom finishes like Smoked Copper,  Black Boron and others add 4-6 weeks in total to the order time and cost extra and they will not have the blast art SEVEN logo which significantly changes the look.  None the less I'm sure some people still gotta have their copper.

Sanki Planarian

Introducing Sanki Planarian Golf Shafts | A year ago while in Himeji I met a young aspiring JPGA tour player who's dream was to make it to the big show the USPGA Tour,  speaking little english and knowing I'm a gear maniac he was very excited to show me something I haven't ever seen,  this kid was right when he pulled  his bag out of the car  (Bridgestone Sponsored) and under a BS head cover was a Kamui Pro driver attached to the most beautiful shaft I've ever seen,  enter Sanki Planarian.

At the time I couldn't pronounce this brand it was just so different a name that I've never heard anything like it in golf,  a couple months went by and then I received a letter from Sanki themselves saying that this young pro highly suggested partnering with TSG for a product of this level of intense custom options and price.  Of course I always treat new brands with skepticism our concern is focused around quality and performance and not just another new product to offer,  what we needed most was to test these shafts and understand the process better.  Ready to see and read more?  Follow the Jump...

So let me start by saying Sanki is actually a division of a 300 year old company called MIKI founded back in the Edo Era 1674-1868 and they have their hands in many industries from fibers to plastics and metals to all sorts of other things.  So bottom line is Sanki is part of a much bigger organization.

So what is their angle and how do they plan to enter such a saturated carbon shaft market today?  they started by producing shaft designs that utilize some common materials found in other top brands shafts,  but also implemented non golf industry technologies carried over from their parent company that they wish to keep a secret.  President Arai Haruo-san and I had a recent conversation about what makes these shafts better than everything else on the market today and while many of his answers were shrouded in secrecy for what he describes as their "secret" advantage I was able to discover the Sanki shafts are made of both 80T and 50T in different layers for the best performance characteristics from both materials.

XF5A3451-Edit

One of the coolest parts about Sanki is the custom finish options,  we are used to custom finishes on irons and wedges or sometimes customers have an auto shop paint their driver head but this takes it to an entirely new level perhaps there are too many options which leads to confusion for the consumer and many of these you really have to see in person to appreciate or dislike.   By far everyone who has seen these in person falls head over heels for the Bamboo series which TSG is expanding into new colors and graphics but there is also Monochromatic paint colors,  Gradient colors,  Marble look finish and many other custom options that can be pretty overwhelming.

TSG is ordering all colors in multiple finishes to narrow down the selection to a handful of custom themes that we know our customers will like,  this should take a lot of confusion out of the selection process.  Stay tuned for photos of the final finishes.

XF5A3444-Edit-Edit

The models of shafts are separated into weight categories 40/50/60/70g  there are 2-3 types of shafts in each weight and to put it simply each weight offers something for the power hitter/softer swinger/all-around.   The weights are the same between the models what changes is the torque, kick point and shaft design.  TSG can help you choose the proper shaft for your swing with a series of questions.

During our testing we had multiple Kamui Pro heads all shafted to the same specs to test performance and we were surprised how well it did against the only other shaft brand in it's price segment, Seven Dreamers and  It's very hard to compare because 7D produces shafts made for the player in this case me but also our two 7D test heads both Jbeam are very different from the Kamui but bottom line is they can both edge each other out depending on the build and players swing.

XF5A3443-Edit

These are seriously beautiful shafts and there is the option to create something totally unique to the customer sort of a one off theme but before we go there we need to get the shafts into our members hands to see just how great they perform.  Below just a few of the many options available:

Untitled-1

And the above image barely scratches the surface of what's possible,  again even custom requests will be considered so you can see how the options can get overwhelming and that's why TSG is producing some really sexy shaft templates for our members to choose from if they don't want to bother making the difficult decision.   If interested please email info@tourspecgolf.com  we are still trying to setup a way to offer these in a more simple manner but we have been selling Sanki shafts for a few months now to select customers and are able to custome order them now if needed.

A-GRIND 440cc Driver Review

XF5A4396-Edit-Edit

A-Grind 440 Driver has been released and is now listed in the TSG ProShop,  I must admit I wasn't too excited for this one as in my opinion the smaller headed,  harsh feeling,  and not forgiving at all Classic 350 A-Grind driver would not last in a discerning players bag for a full season it was more it's sex appeal that drove sales of that model but now this 440cc version is an entirely different beast this one I can see in the bags of many it's looks are simple and sleek with no external weights or adjustable adapters and best of all it fits a wide range of skill levels.  Follow the Jump to read our review...

XF5A4404-Edit

Appearance | it's pretty much perfect and hard to find a driver this size with a better shape anywhere,  this photo captures what I'm saying but in person it looks even better,  The 9.5* lofts all come with a 1* open face angle standard while the 10.5* is still 0.5* open.

It's matte black finish from crown to sole is smooth with none of the unnecessary  dips and cavities and channels most brands try to lure you in with.  In the photo below the face is also "just right"  not the deepest and definitely not shallow it has a longer heel to toe length than most deep JDM drivers with confidence simply based on it's appearance at address and face on it's tops in my book.

XF5A4423-Edit-Edit

Offered in 2 versions normal & light,  normal is 198g while light is 193g,  I would suggest normal if you play it short or require a heavier swing weight and light if you play your driver 46"+ or short because you require a very light club.    The lofts are true to spec,  the head weights have a tolerance of +/- 2g and you can tell the light weight model by it's loft marking in gold while normal is in silver.

A-Grind still considers the head Semi-large but in my opinion it's smaller than average as one marketing ploy some brands use is to name drivers for example the 435*  yet it's 445cc's.  Comparing it to one of my gamers (Jbeam blackout 435) based on looks alone it's smaller,  has a better shape and overall appears a whole lot sexier.

XF5A4429-Edit-Edit

Feel |  Not like the 350 Classic this one is softer by a wide margin and it's also a little more hollow in a very nice way, the words I would use to describe it is light spongy hollow feel yet it's not loud at all with minimal crunch to it at impact.

Forgiveness | based on 2 rounds and 2 range sessions it reminded me a lot of the Modart MA01DS which may not be very large or designed for forgiveness but somehow still manages to do a good job of it,  same with the A-Grind 440cc  it's lower spin does a great job in straightening your shots,  I play a fade and the open face did not turn it into a slice but I must admit I chose a softer tip shaft because of it knowing that may help so the general sense I got from it was that it had a very stable trajectory and a tight dispersion.

Distance | Let's face it most drivers are reliant on the proper specs and combo for the players swing and this is no exception but this can be long for a certain segment which would be a more powerful player who puts a little much spin on the ball losing distance due to a wider dispersion so figure 5yds longer straight vs 5yds more left.  But at the same time for the slow swinger in that 80mph range or less who doesn't produce the spin required to increase distance then this head may not help.  Bottom line is it's very long for the right type of player and it fits a wide segment from Pro up to high handicaps depending on the swing and preference.  Comparing it to my ZY-11 w/7D would be like cheating but right now there are two heads in the running for my next 7D and it's this A-Grind and the Ryoma Maxima Special Tune.

XF5A4400-Edit

Trajectory |  Its higher than the 350 classic for sure,  I would say low spin + mid/high trajectory categorizes as I try to isolate the heads performance from the shaft I installed ( MUSO AP6 )  damn good shaft by the way,  think Basileus AAA at nearly half the price with a higher launch angle yet still laser straight.

Dispersion |  Again it's pretty straight thanks to low spin and of course the high grade materials in the AP shaft from Geotech's MUSO line.

The Driver is made with common sense materials such as the tried and tested 6-4Ti Forged cup face used by many other JDM drivers not USDM because it's pricey over cast and the A-Grind 440's body is made of 6-4 Ti Cast which is commonly used in the majority of drivers in golf today.

I will update the forum thread as I try new shafts and if your interested in owning one TSG is now shipping these head only or custom built at a steal 355 + Shipping and you can click here to get yours (Click Here for A-Grind 440 in the TSG Pro Shop)

RYOMA’s 3 New Utility Lofts 18/30/34

Ryoma Golf Clubs

Ryoma is known for making outstanding drivers, fairway woods, and utilities and along with their most recent release the Beyond Power Shaft they have also come out with 3 new utility lofts 18/30/34* which expands the line up to a total of 6 lofts available 18/21/24/27/30/34*.  Ready to see more pics?  Follow the Jump...

Ryoma Golf Clubs

For someone who doesn't know about Ryoma I would tell them they make some of the longest distance,  most forgiving and easy to use woods on the market.  As you can see these don't look like your average utility woods of course due to the more rounded larger shape that has virtually no pear shape but also with the higher lofts you an also see a lot of the face at address.  The bottom line is the size and shape promotes a sense of confidence and forgiveness.

XF5A1124-Edit

Many of our customers play this new 18* loft with a 42.5" shaft in place of a fairway wood.  In fact Ryoma UT's are known to play with more distance than other UT's so that 18* with a longer shaft equals many of our clients 3 woods in distance but leaves them in the dust when it comes to forgiveness,  the 34* is the equivalent to a #6 or #7 iron in today's lofts,  it's really a blast to hit as it's easy to fly straight and high for much more distance than an iron or normal UT can produce.

XF5A1087-Edit-Edit

The 30* puts you in #5 - #6 iron category based on today's normal lofts so if you have trouble with the longer irons and getting them airborne with consistency there is no shame in trying one of these higher lofted UT's.  Maruman shuttle also comes in 30* but after hitting it against each other the Ryoma UT was much easier to hit straight consistently even as the swing gets a little sloppy.

TSG has all lofts currently available in the TSG ProShop which you can view by clicking here.  Enjoy the rest of the images below and if you have any questions feel free to contact us via email at info@tourspecgolf.com

Miura Giken PP-9005 Passing Point Irons

Miura PP 9005

Miura Giken appears to be going in a new design direction or at least trying things they havent in the past Miura usually makes spin welded forged iron heads by hand in Japan while the new Passing Point Neo PP-9005 is is their first model that's a 2 piece head design including a deep cavity undercut, when I say 2 piece it's because the face and body are separate and different materials,  the body is S20C while the face is SUP-10 steel and the result is actually Miura's most forgiving,  longest distance,  and largest club head they ever made.  Oh and one more thing these are not made in Japan unlike their other models follow the jump to read more.

Miura Giken Golf Clubs

Is not made in Japan that big of a deal?  I think the answer to that question depends on what you want generally 2 piece heads with stainless faces and a deep undercut often feel & sound hollow and louder higher pitch at impact in our testing the PP-9005 doesn't feel or sound like any of the other Miura irons but on the flip side what it lacks in that familiar softer forged feel it gains in distance and forgiveness.

The new font does look somewhat classic yet modern and the badge inside the cavity while serving no purpose in performance is a welcome addition to the aesthetics of this design as without there could be an emptiness to it.  Before release MG was taking the prototypes to various stores in Japan to preview and as a prototype it didn't look as polished and perfect as it could have,  good news is the retail version has it's act together and is well put together.

Especially the view at address,  very minimal offset,  shape is very nice from all angles,  finish is quality,  it looks doesn't look fully like a Miura shape nor does it look hand ground but it's still very nice It's adress is my favorite angle on the club and so is it's shape face forward.

Miura Passing Point Irons

Please pardon the shaft mess above the hosel,  these photos were taken with a club stuck onto a shaft to get the proper angles before being shafted with NS Pro Modus3 130g shaft.

Feel - Not very Miura like,  hollow,  spongy,  softer tink/chank sound,  louder.

Forgiveness - Great for it's size,  most of the face flies straight, head size is still semi compact

Distance - Great due to hotter SUP10 face, stronger lofts, and it launches higher than most miura irons especially with Modus 130.

Looks - From address its hard to beat the PP-9005's inspire confidence the top line grind makes it look smaller than it actually is,  face shape is awesome ( as seen below ) it is shorter heel to toe than most undercut CBs.

XF5A4344-Edit-Edit

So what irons do these compare to?  ONOFF Kuro,  ONOFF RB247G,  XXIO Forged,  Srixon Z545,  Honma TW727P and RomaRo Alpha just to name a few and those are all fantastic options making it hard to choose.

So my suggestion is first to consider what is most important to you,  to some most important is distance and forgiveness with address and feel taking the back seat while for others its the exact opposite.  Unfortunately no combo sets are available.

XF5A4325-Edit-Edit

The 9005 Passing Point Irons by Miura have a big trailing and noticeable leading edge grind,  sole is not all that rounded and not that wide,  overall the iron is shorter heel to toe.  On our test days it went up against the ONOFF Kuro and new RomaRo Alpha with Modus3 120 shafts and all three had their positives  and we found we liked each for different reasons:

RomaRo Alpha - More rounded,  more refined looking,  larger head,  more forgiving,  longer, felt a little better than the Miura PP-9005 for being a 2 piece undercut design

ONOFF Kuro Forged - slightly thinner but longer heel to toe,  much softer and better feeling,  distance was about 2-4yds less in the same iron dispite different shafts,  most workable of the 3

So I would say RomaRo Alpha for person who wants best distance, forgivness, higher trajectory and ease of use,  ONOFF Kuro for a person who wants softest and lower launch angle and most workable 1 piece feel,  Miura PP-9005 for compact sexy address with just a little more forgiveness than the Kuro

XF5A4357-Edit

Miura Giken is using what they call an Accurise & copper finish which they says slides through the rough with less resistance while the copper under layer helps it feel softer.  We have the new PP-9005 in the TSG Proshop right now it's sold only as 4-PW heads only or custom built.  Do keep in mind the strong lofts the PW is at 44* hence part of the reason why the distance is great.  "Click Here for Product Listing"

PRGR Super Egg Series Driver

PRGR 2015 Egg Series Golf Clubs

PRGR announced many new models today with a new GOLD / RED concept,  Gold is non-conforming while RED is conforming besides that some specs vary such as face angle or lofts  and swing weight The new Egg/Super Egg Driver is 460cc's the conforming version has a 2* open face angle while the non conforming 1*,  remember this is PRGR they like open faces and design their heads to produce a straight neutral launch these are not draw bias or fade bias even considering the open face angle.  Here's a big deal,  a large OEM using DAT55G from Japan making me can't wait to hit this one! Stay tuned for more info!  Will be available in early October.

PRGR New Super Egg Fairway Wood

Pretty much everyone on TSG agree's the 2nd Gen Egg reigns supreme so we got lucky that PRGR is releasing something very similar.  Designed to produce a high launch with low spin and made with a carbon fiber reinforced plastic crown.  PRGR has a patent pending on the new composite head structure and the bridge weight structure within the head.  Will be available in 15/18/20 with an early  September release date.

PRGR New Egg UT

Another new release is the new Egg UT which is a new redesign of  Egg i+,  PRGR has pushed even more weight back for more powerful and stronger shots to produce a higher launch with low spin.  They also incorporated a new custom 455 stainless material in the face so when the ball makes impact there is even more flex .  Coming early September and available in 19/21/23/25* lofts.

PRGR Super Egg Irons

Another Gold version in the line up which is interesting as few brands offer non conforming irons now days and no it's not the grooves this time it's the COR of the face and with a new C300 maraging steel the rebound is up 1.9mm for a COR over 0.83.  Super strong lofts with a 40* PW make these a high launching,  forgiving,  long distance iron.  Gold version is released early October.

The Red version below is conforming and uses a different form of Stainless Steel in the face also the weight is less pronounced while the gold version it extends deeper and longer.  Red version is available early September.
