RomaRo Ray Alpha Irons Review

XF5A4290-Edit-Edit

RomaRo Alpha Irons - I've been testing this one over 1 month casually meaning sometimes I put it in the bag for a round or two and take it to the range.  5-6 rounds and I'm confident I got a grip of what these are all about.

When first opening the box and holding them in hand a question popped into mind:  If I had to choose a thinner top line vs less offset and could only choose one which would it be?  Follow the Jump to hear my answer!

XF5A4273-Edit-Edit

So let's cover what these are and who they are made for,  If you look at the RomaRo line up they do a pretty good job of making something for everyone the RomaRo Alpha irons I consider to be their most forgiving yet.

Made with a 15-3-3-3 titanium face and 17-4 stainless steel body in satin finish,  available 5-PW with optional #5 and PW,  standard shaft options are RomaRo Rj-Ti2 Carbon or NS950 Steel,  TSG offers these as heads only or custom shafted with everything we have to offer.

XF5A4258-Edit-Edit

It's got a low CG thanks to it's deep undercut and thicker sole,  forgiveness and a high trajectory are just two of it's attributes and the lofts are prety strong,  the PW is 43 and the AW is 58 so about 4* stronger than most today.

RomaRo is proud of it's new face design which is only 2.1mm thick on the #5 iron  This is a Titanium face iron made of 15-3-3-3 it's strong but has a powerful pop off the face combined with strong lofts they produce insane distance that you would only expect in larger sized game improvement irons.  ※ thickness design: # 4-6 (central 2.1 mm, around 2.4 mm) / # 7 ~ AW (center 2.3 millimeter around 2.4 mm).

XF5A4296-Edit

Your probably wondering how does it feel?  Its not as loud as I expected sound is a hollow chink/tink feel with,  you can tell its made of Ti,  why does that even matter?  Titanium has optimal weight and ball velocity for drivers and recently more JDM irons are implementing them,  It also gives you the sense of unity with the woods due to it's sound and feel.

Look below I know, I know,  first thing I noticed was the offset it's a little much for me,  but at the same time it's topline is thin for this type of club,  compared against the VG3, TM Rsi TP,  Gloire Forged which I have also been messing around with it can fit in dispite the offset,  so for what it is and how it performs it's pretty small.  Back to my original question "If I had to choose a thinner top line vs less offset and could only choose one which would it be?    I would reduce offset because the top line is the thinnest I've seen in a Ti faced GI iron.

XF5A4287-Edit-Edit

That said,  after maybe 20 balls on the range I adjusted hand position and tempo a bit and I was hitting it much better than any of my razor blade compact CB's  longer,  more forgiving,  good unique,  but distance and forgiveness are equal to the PRGR Titan RS but this one is smaller and shapped better although it has more offset.

XF5A4264-Edit-Edit

Sole is thick but not like the others in this iron category,  I'm 2.5 clubs longer distance than my MB's.  It's pretty shocking of an adjustment coming from single 1 piece forged CB's and Blades it feels as if I am cheating.  These are confoming by the way.

PRGR Egg UT

PRGR recently released a wide selection of PRGR Egg woods and irons and Pro Gear was kind enough to send us samples a couple weeks back well before release.  To say they are excited about the new Egg series would be an understatement they truly believe these are the longest most forgiving clubs in this segment and as usual everything is jam-packed with tech that other brands don't use.

The biggest feature on the clubs is the head itself and there is really a lot to explain about them so where to begin?  Let's start by clicking read more to see more pictures and explanations + quick review on these...

PRGR Egg UT 2015

First off there is virtually no offset yay!  while the top line is thick it still sits square to the target and while you can see the back of the head behind the top blade you also could with any UT wood as well except PRGR has basically eliminated the hollow back of a UT to create a scoop like the Egg FW Gen II or the newest version,  then they put a large tungsten bar as far back as possible for increased MOI the top line is thick and very forgiving,  the head finished in black to appear smaller.

PRGR has done all the right steps this is easiest Driving Iron or UT like Iron that I have ever hit.  The goal is high launch and low spin and PRGR has knocked it out of the park with this one.

PRGR Golf

At impact the face itself bends while the power groove which is a notch behind the face before the scoop acts as the fulcrum and after face deformation it reforms to send the ball flying with a powerful velocity.

Below the image of the sole which is wide,  slides thru turg smoothly and has a good amount of leading edge relief especially for a utility,  lead edge relief is usually only seen on irons.

PRGR Golf

PRGR created their own custom powder metallurgy 455 rolled maraging steel face and with a 450 custom maraging body,  the weight on the back is tungsten Ni, W, Fe.

On course,  I've had a chance to play all of PRGR's new clubs and will write reviews for each of them in the future but the Egg UT one ups the Egg i+ in just about every category it also looks a hell of a lot cooler to me.  The feel is is a tink that is somewhat a light hollow and louder but not off-putting,  the distance is phenomenal the 19* UT is equal to my 18* 5 wood,  it is longer than my 19* RomaRo Chapter 2 which I adore and also my 19* Modart UT which is in the bag currently and has been for over a year.  Forgiveness is excellent as many who don't hit UT's and FW's as accurate as driving irons will be happy with this,  really anyone will these are a no-brainer for people who have issues with the long iron as well.  The other day I hit 10 out of 10 shots perfect on the range with little focus,  this club absorbs minor swing flaws.

PRGR Golf

Available in 19/21/23/25 with only PRGR carbon shafts as an option,  TSG can also custom build these but because PRGR is not a component brand you would have us pull the stock shaft and install something special for you.  The official release date is early Sept 2015 but for sure the 1st run will sell out quick so to avoid that if you know you want one of these we highly suggest a pre order by "clicking here".

DSC00581-Edit-Edit

PRGR 2015 Egg Fairway Wood - Based on the famous PRGR Egg 2nd generation the now 4th iteration of this popular fairway wood has taken technology to an entirely different level.  PRGR has adopted a new CFRP carbon crown to reduce weight and lower the CG point compared to metal this CFRP crown also flexes to help get the ball higher with less spin.  Ready for more pics and our take on the new Egg Spoon?  Please follow the jump...

DSC00591-Edit-Edit

PRGR has reduced the face length making the head slightly smaller than it's predecessor combined with evolving the face height and shape these two features spread the sweet spot over a larger percentage of the face and PRGR claims the spot is now 20% bigger. Within the head there is a 2 piece floating weight structure which helps the ball get up especially for the 15 degree spoon.

Made with a new ES235 Maraging rolled Steel Face and press molded CRFP carbon crown + SUS630 body.  It is available in 15/18/20* lofts with any of PRGR's carbon shafts matched to the swing speed.

DSC00587-Edit-Edit-Edit

As you can see the head is a little more condensed while the center of the face gets deeper than the 2nd gen egg.  Hold it in hand and you can tell the Egg series has developed into some cutting edge and very scientific design. fit and finish is prime grade as well.

In the image below the new PRGR Egg 2015 at address just makes me happy  reminiscent of the 2nd gen which was long easy to hit and unique, the new one is also I've had the new Egg series for almost 2 weeks now and can share my thoughts.

DSC00597-Edit-Edit

It's more forgiving high and low on the face where the 2nd gen did well out on the toe and heel,  my misses are high and low so this one worked really well for me.

There is a large segment of players that have issues with 3 woods especially deeper faced 3 woods and they should get along with these pretty well despite the face depth as it is very good at getting the ball up quickly.  There is also a segment of players who although being able to hit the woods well have an issue with FW's that have a big footprint or are oversized where they bounce off the grown before making contact with the ball and for them this head is not oversized,  fairly small footprint so no slapping the ground at all with this new egg.

DSC00606-Edit-Edit

One issue is with shaft selection, PRGR likes to offer their own shafts and they do make great ones and while I frequently hit clubs with stock shafts I still always prefer my favorites which are : new or old FW80,  the new FW50, and the TRPX Type S Red Hot.   What I would suggest for golfers like myself is inquire to info@tourspecgolf.com to discuss your custom build and get a quote,  good thing is these new Egg Fairways are not all that expensive costing about 300 bucks so an upgrade shaft is possible without it going into driver price territory.

Anyway thanks for reading my brief review and support us by purchasing from this link: Click Here

PRGR Golf Super Egg Driver 2015

PRGR Egg golf clubs

PRGR will release 2 new drivers in October both labeled Egg one is non-conforming and named Super-Egg (gold)  the other conforms simply called the new egg driver (red).

It's not often big brands release anything non-conforming yet PRGR realizes the vast majority of golfers don't play in sanctioned events, anyhow PRGR has pushed the COR beyond 0.85 in the Super Egg.  Follow the Jump for it...

Japanese Golf Clubs

Both the Super Egg and Egg drivers are totally separate designs with different dimensions and attributes.  Did I mention the face is made of DAT55G from Japan?  Both models are made using the same materials yet those materials have gone through slightly different processes especially in making the DAT55G non conforming.

The Super Egg features a cold rolled DAT55G face from Japan while the body is vacuum precision cast of (Ti-8Al-1V-1Mo),  the face angle comes standard at 1* open  it plays to square according to PRGR so don't let this scare you as PRGR has a really awesome way of making new technology  and strange specs work for the player.  Many would think why would their supposedly more forgiving egg come standard with an open face angle?  it all works out in the end to put this unique way of design into context the conforming egg coming soon has a 2* open face angle standard yet plays square in the real world.

Pro Gear PRGR Golf

By just tapping the face with your fingernail you can hear the non-conforming version has a much higher pitch,  sounds thinner,  feels more hollow while the conforming sounds more dense and muted, both are 460cc's.

In the image below you can see a ridge that lifts from the front of the crown,  they call this the high rebound power flange and it's only on the non-conforming version it's supposed to create more rebound and prevent deformation of the crown.

Japanese Golf Clubs

I have only hit the new PRGR clubs with their standard shafts and for not long at all and in this case we were given M-37 Regular/M-40 Stiff shafts in our clubs,  while the shafts are well made i'm never satisfied until I put the shafts I know work for me into it,  then we can party!

With the stock shaft the trajectory was medium high yet with a more penetrating arc than many other drivers in the same segment it had some good roll and this is similar to the previous egg series drivers if you've had the chance to hit them.

The Super Egg Drivers feel lets you know it's non-conforming,  thin, hollow, high pitch, somewhat louder when I describe it like that it doesn't sound very appealing but I assure you the DAT55G face feels very good just sounds "different"  the first thing that comes to mind is it sounds like this face is very hot.

Egg Driver by PRGR

Distance is hard to judge because I'm not playing with my best shafts installed also the standard shaft that arrived with it I had to hit in a flex lower than I should  but  I'm positive my 7D or my Sanki's or any other quality shaft would tighten things up immensely because the head and it's distance looks promising and could be up there with the Maxima ST by Ryoma.

It's forgiving center to heel while toe shots did pretty good but not as foriving as the heel,  I need more time with a couple more shafts but this is a head I've decided to work with, somehow PRGR always delivers with egg products and the new Super Egg is no exception.  It's strongest attributes are it's trajectory and ball flight and overall distance.

Mitsubishi Rayon will release the new KUROKAGE XM series shaft on October 3rd,  Last year they released the XT version also known as XTS while it was a prototype,  this year the prototype XMS will be released to the public as the XM series.  It's basically a softer KuroKage XT  shaft featuring a softer tip section and stiffer butt end overall making it launch higher with more flex in the shaft.  Mitsubishi has incorporated a titanium-nickel metal wire to help the shaft recover quickly to square up the club face,  another feature of the metal wire is to reduce back spin while improving shaft efficiency and energy transfer.

Mitsubishi KuroKage XM

Available in 60/70/80 gram versions the new Kuro Kage XM shafts feature a mid kick point with torque in the range of 2.9 - 3.7*  These should be in the TSG Pro Shop this week for pre order!

Mizuno MP-R5L & W 2015

Mizuno MP-R5L & MP-R5W Wedges  -  Mizuno Japan is rolling out their latest creations and they look great,  the new MP R5 wedges in two variants has been announced to release at TourSpecGolf in September.

The new R5 series wedges have two versions,  the "L" which is best for a steep descending downward blow on wedge shots and the "W" which has a design for the slider who comes into the ball with a level blow.  So you ready for more images and information?  Follow the Jump...

Irons R5 WedgesBoth the L & W have a similar setup as seen above,  A beautiful shape at address.  The key difference is the sole grind and it's angles,  The L for the steeper swinger has a more narrow sole,  trailing edge relief and a grind to help the wedge stop digging and exit the turf easier.   The W has a flatter sole to glide through turf easier making it easy to hit straight and high approach shots.

Mizuno-MP-R5L

Mizuno has also refined their groove pattern with two different patterns,  one for the approach shots that is deeper and more narrow,  the other for the 56/58* lofts which are more shallow and wide,  this allows spin control that matches different shot variations.

Forged of S25CM and finished in a Nickel Chrome plated satin mirror finish for the best of durability, feel, and the reduction of glare.  TSG hopes they open up the new R5 models to Yoro upgrades and we will be keeping you updated with these the closer to release it gets.

Mizuno-MP-55-Irons

Mizuno MP-55 Forged Irons - Big day for Mizuno releases the Japanese MP-55 iron has been announced and it looks promising.  Versus the MP-54/H5/15 the new MP-55 features the deepest center of gravity of all,  it's sweet spot height is also lower than the others making it a strong lofted, higher trajectory semi-players cavity back.

Mizuno has created a new V shaped T-Slot filling most of the cavity to provide a more solid and dense feel,  the combo of loft/deep cg/low cg creates a higher trajectory for more distance and a stronger ball flight.  It is Forged of S25CM  and available 4-PW.  The new MP-55 will have YORO craft options coming to TSG at the same time as the official release which is in September.  Stay tuned for our photos of customized MP-55 Mizuno Irons.

Grandista RS-001 Driver Review

Grandista Driver

Gradista Golf Driver -When TSG offers new brands we usually look for a particular type,  brands that have a full line up and release products annually,  brands that have a unique difference about them like top of the line materials from Japan and ultimately brands that produce products that perform,  in this situation Grandista Golf only has 1 product in their line up ( with 2 variants ) so why did we decide to offer it?  Because after a few whacks at the ball it was obviously a performer and we are proud to announce our relationship with them.

Not only is the Grandista Driver unique but it's really well thought out in it's design,  one of my favorite things is that they use DAT55G from Daido steel co in Japan,  yes look for the "G" when shopping DAT55 because that's the one you want this material is one of TSG members favorite on drivers it produces slightly faster ball speeds than the others and of course costs a little more as well.   Lots to share on this excellent excellent driver so follow the jump....

Grandista Golf Clubs

I guess I don't have to say much about the specs right?  It's written on the head itself  i've never seen a brand do it like this,  they even have the CG length/height/depth and face angle printed in old english :)

Let's take a dip into what makes this driver great before I share my brief thoughts on it.  First and most interesting they market the Golden Ration this is something Japan uses a lot in multiple industries and in this case the gravity length, depth, and height all correlate to it,  now I don't know how that really plays into it's performance but bottom line is something they are doing works really well.

It's actually available in 2 different face materials, SP700 (Type-S) or DAT55G which is considered a best in class titanium alloy for driver faces due to it's spring-like effect also known as CT "Characteristic of Time" that the ball is compressed against the face and in this case it's VERY high at CT=257.

The crown of the driver is made of a special carbon material  which helps in getting the CG lower a bit this was required to get the gear effect to function properly and lends itself to a naturally high trajectory with low spin rates.   The tube looking things on the sole they call Roll Bars and that provides enough weight to create the cut away which allowed them to push the CG more forward.

New Grandista Golf Driver

So lots to love here but my favorite part is the head shape,  Grandista spent a lot of time researching this aspect of the driver by asking pro's and top amateurs what they like to see at address and hands down I agree with the many in Japan who think this is the best shaped 460cc driver on the market today.  Bold statement but I've seen and own a lot of JDM clubs and in hand in person nothing looks as good as this one.

The driver is square faced available in 9 or 10* lofts and isn't very expensive either compared to other JDM clubs.

Grandista Golf

Face is in-between deep and shallow which I also like,  no complaints here it's near perfect in my book.

Grandista Driver

The golden weight at the end of the Roll Bar is for the brand to adjust weighting as of now there isn't any weights or a wrench available to tweak the settings yourself but no biggie as I would advise against it even if we could do the tweaking on our own.  Time for my thoughts on performance...

Golf by Grandista Drivers

Ok so I'm playing it to 45.5" D2 with the all new Crazy Regenisis LY-01 in Stiff,  I've had this club just under 2 months now and I'm comfortable saying a bit about it.

Feel/Sound - outstanding!  typical DAT55G but in the Grandista it's slightly altered due to the carbon crown,  the only way I can sum it all up is soft & poppy crunch with a only a hint of hollowness to it...  Not super loud not mute either its right in the middle.

Distance/Trajectory - In an age where all drivers pretty much produce similar distances this one while still in that boat I believe will offer certain players more distance than they would expect,  I'm a high ball hitter most of the time and the 9* produced a higher low spinning ball flight of course shaft has a lot to do with the launch angle I'm getting but at 9* it seems to play closer to what most people would consider 10* in todays drivers.   With the right shaft this driver has a lot potential to be one of the longest.

Dispersion - Thanks to low spin and a good shaft I was able to hit straight shots,  for those "in the know" who have hit Jbeam drivers this is almost as straight as the Blackout 435 minus the incredibly low ball flight.

Comparison to my gamer - My main gamers are Jbeam Blackout 435 & ZY-11 both with Seven Dreamers distance shafts and I'm itching to take one of those 7D's and install them in this one.  The spin rates are higher than the ZY-11/Blackout but what I like about it is the higher trajectory for more carry on non windy days.  The Grandsita RS-001 is good enough that I put it on par with Ryoma & Jbeam as far as performance and feel goes.

Hope you enjoyed my review,  The Grandista R-001 is now available and shipping in the TSG Pro Shop ( Click Here )

Introducing the 2016 SEVEN Wedge!

DSC01298-Edit-Edit

Introducing the 2016 model Seven Original Wedge - Only 6 months ago TSG launched our very own in house brand to the public.   The concept behind the company is to produce products made exclusively in Japan and utilizing the best crafters and factories Japan has to offer,  the "Original" wedges will always be a part of the SEVEN line up evolving into a wedge that we hope golfers believe as perfect in 4 key areas:  Grind/Shape,  Spin,  Feel,  and Versatility.

Comparing the new 2016 SEVEN "Original" Wedge to the previous version we have made quite a few changes follow the Jump to hear what those differences are...

DSC01327-Edit-Edit

First and foremost is the shape,  we tapered the neck a little making it a hybrid between what's commonly seen in Japan a higher neck and what PGA tour players prefer a more lower tapered neck with teardrop shape this provides a sense of confidence at address reducing the fear of the dreaded shank.   The toe section has been rounded to appear more symetrical and in the higher lofts we have increased the amount of onset which better players love yet average golfers can also hit consistently.

DSC01405-Edit-Edit

New Finish - previously we had used Kyoei for our brushed satin although our clubs are not forged or hand ground there we enjoyed the softer feel of their finish,  this time around by adjusting the softness via heat treatment of the metal it has allowed us to go with an even more beautiful and durable finish as seen in these photos,  it's a brighter NiCr brushed satin that contains more nickel and will be used across the entire line from here on out,  Our wedges are Forged SS400 which is basically the same as S20C but simply measured based on tensile strength instead of carbon content,  we found this to provide the absolute best sense of soft feedback during impact.

The stamping configuration has been revised as well using a cool new modern font and an angled brand name and logo,  the loft on the sole has also been improved to match the overall theme of the wedges.  We do offer custom paint fill  but the standards are translucent red or blue depending on your style.  Translucent Green,  Purple,  Grey, Orange all look great as well.

DSC01311-Edit-Edit

Important to note is that these wedges are made using non conforming grooves that spin like heck,  we do have a limited quantity of conforming groove wedges as well actually very few but I will say the difference between the spin is noticeable and for many of our clients they love  the extra zip these wedges provide.

Another thing we did was increase the head weight by 2g making these pretty heavy  the 52* is 300g while the 56/60/64 are 304g.  This year the 2016 SEVEN wedge is offered in 52/56/60 with a limited edition 64*  for those who play 52/58 we have the SEVEN double milled wedge to choose from.  The 52/56/60 feature a low bounce design at 8* we found this setup to work especially well with firmer conditions but also thanks to the sole grind and leading edge relief excel in softer turf as well.

DSC01315-Edit-Edit

As a company SEVEN at about 6 months old and it's doing pretty well,  production is at limited capacity so the product is not in stock for very long, we have established a few quality distributors worldwide who specialize in high end golf gear and are collaborating with TSG members on future models and designs.

All Seven products are available with custom assembly and expert installation with all after market shafts and grips. Custom Lie, Loft, and Refinishing options available.  The new 2016 SEVEN Original Wedge is now shipping and in stock while supplies last so if your looking for a  soft, high spin and versitile wedge you may (click here) to purchase.

New PRGR Egg Irons Review

2015 PRGR Egg Irons

New PRGR Egg Irons - To say PRGR is at the cutting edge of golf technology would be an understatement year after year they continue to think outside of the box pushing the boundaries and trying things other company just don't have the guts to,  their latest releases are evidence of this with their 2 new irons the Egg Iron Red as seen in this blog post and the non conforming Super Egg Iron which I will review later.

At the heart of the new Egg Irons is it's power groove structure,  when the face meets the ball during impact it flexes and releases pushing off the face at a higher velocity,  the front portion of the sole also flexes with the face as one making this a really unique design.  High launch and low spin is the result.  More photos and comments after the Jump...

PRGR Super Egg Irons

The new PRGR Egg 2015 Iron features a maraging steel custom 450 stainless face while it's body is made of what PRGR calls special powder metallurgy metal,  deep inside the head.  The shorter face height helps get the ball up by lowering the CG and as you can see in the photo above it's setup is fairly compact for the type of iron it is,  it's got nearly no offset with a somewhat thick top line that is hidden well with it's beautiful black finish,  overall it's top line matches the size of the club head perfectly.

When standing over the ball you can't help but to feel extremely confident especially if you are used to playing something much smaller like many of us are but when you hit it everything changes,  it's a higher pitch sound at impact not very dense but also not hollow and then the ball launches off the face  as you would expect to see from a fairway wood or driver,  it's pretty amazing and simply put if you want to hit long,  high,  straight shots consistently this is a good way to achieve this.

New Egg Irons by PRGR

I found the face visually appealing,  you can hit it just about anywhere but the heel and the most outer edge of the toe  and still get good results where doing the same with the vast majority of other irons will punish you greatly.

I also found distance to be outstanding  with a loft of 40* on the PW it's insanely long for me 2 clubs longer than my forged 1 piece irons that have a 47* PW.  I've also hit various irons from other brands that have a 38* PW and the PRGR new Egg irons 40* is still longer.  Right now I'm using the standard carbon shaft that is a flex too weak for me and also too light yet the ball is going straight I think it's the head technology doing most of the work here.

DSC00665-Edit-Edit

I'm liking it so much in stock form I don't feel the need to go steel,  I would like to try Fujikura MCI or other top carbon shafts especially the new Crazy STP85 which I play in my current gamers.  The swing weight is light at D0-D0.5  heads must be lighter which is something I see a lot of with PRGR,  tip weights will for sure help with that,  the shaft lengths come extra long from the factory standard as well.

Forgiving,  Straight,  High Launching,  Very Long these are for the player who wants to make golf much easier,  it's the opposite of a blade.  The only things some may find wrong with it is it's ultra modern looks and size and the fact that it's not workable at all but most golfers take straight and long over those attributes all day.  It's wide sole works especially well for sweepers but for steeper swings you will notice a good amount of leading edge relief to prevent the digs.

DSC00649-Edit-Edit

Base set is #7-PW with optional #6 iron,  AW,  AS,  and SW,  the new 2015 PRGR Egg Irons Red will be shipping from September 11th 2015 so make sure to order yours in advance if you would like to be one of the first to put these in play.  Available in the TSG ProShop by ( Clicking Here )

TSG Club Works presents the 2015 Titleist Cold Forged Vokeys in Smoked Copper Finish - It's trendy and many of our customers have been sending in a variety of wedges for our Japanese Hand Made Smoked Copper treatment for a couple of reasons,  the first is with copper the heads have a softer sticker feel at impact,  second is after several rounds you begin to see them transform into a beautiful patina finish which people seem to enjoy.

It's a more rustic and crafty appearance for sure andworth noting is more than 70% of PGA Tour pro's use wedges that will wear in a raw form,  or oxide style finish but smoked copper seems to not only trump those in feel but also in character after long term use.  More pics after the Jump....

DSC01794-Edit-Edit

TSG Club Works can enhance the look of just about any wedge but being that this new FORGED & Japan only vokey is selling like hot cakes here we decided to offer this as a custom option brand new in the Pro Shop,  it does take about 4 weeks to ship and they do cost a bit more but it takes time and work to produce these,  first we order the wedges brand new and remove the shafts then we send them into our copper plating factory in Japan which puts a beautiful and thicker quality copper process to the wedge head and finally the smoked look is applied by hand at TSG Club Works.  If bending is required we bend before refinishing as well,  next we ship the heads only or re-shaft it with the standard or a custom spec shaft/grip for you.

DSC01802-Edit-Edit

Normally custom builds from OEM's take 3-4 weeks anyway so our TSG Club Works lead time of 4 weeks isn't so bad especially for the unique look and feel the wedge has when it lands at your doorstep.  From different angles the finish looks different,  in direct sun light it's more orange and you can see the finishes nuances while in the shade it looks darker and smooth.

keep on the lookout for these as they hit the TSG ProShop this week!

New PRGR Egg Driver 2015

The new PRGR Egg drivers just released for sale on september 11th, a few weeks ago in the blog we covered the Super Egg non conforming version, today we are showing you pre release photos of the conforming version known as the 2015 Egg Driver ( no super ).

This deep faced 460cc driver holds nothing back in terms of technology and materials, PRGR uses a titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) face with a titanium (Ti-8Al-1V-1Mo) body. Available in 2 lofts 10 & 11 degree's the standard face angle is listed at 2* open but the driver looks and plays very square, this is due to the unique methods prgr uses to design, manufacture, and measure their clubs. More photos after the Jump...

DSC01770-Edit-Edit copy

Ultra Deep Face,  the new Conforming Egg Driver really raises high center of the club face making it great for forgiveness and players who miss high and low on the face.   Overall after hitting the new egg driver for a couple of rounds it is indeed an excellent compromise between a players driver that packs enough forgiveness for a mid handicapper to use.  This deep face produced a nice soft feel that wasn't hollow this is a straight of PRGR drivers a nice dense feel.

The sweet spot seems big as mishits are punished less than other similar sized clubs,  like all egg drivers the spin is low,  trajectory is a true medium  and the ball flight is very penetrating,  it's a common theme with PRGR's players drivers.

DSC01766-Edit-Edit copy

Like the super egg non conforming version it has the power flange to help increase rebound when coming off the face.  While PRGR classifies this driver as high launch none of our testers found this as in 10* it played what we considered true to loft.

As you can see in the below image -2.0 open face angle looks square so don't let this sway you it's simply the method PRGR uses to measure.  Flexes are R2/R/SR/S in PRGR's original design shafts and there are custom shafts available through PRGR or more exotic options such as hot melt,  foaming,  and ultra top end shaft options from TSG Club Works.

XF5A4202-Edit

Introducing Docus Golf - A relatively new brand out of Japan with a designer who has been a part of the Japan Golf Industry for decades,   TSG is proud to announce our new relationship with Docus after receiving samples of their clubs and evaluating them with very positive results.

We have many different models to go over in the coming weeks but we will start with one of my favorites,  the new DCI-702 Cavity Blade.  Follow the Jump to read up on this new Japan Forged CMB Iron.

XF5A4215

Made of SS400 soft forged steel and featuring a double cut cavity with the workability of the blade yet with forgivenss like a players CB,  the H back design helps to lower the center of gravity making these much easier to hit than a normal muscle back iron.

After our testing we can confirm it is more forgiving than your traditional muscle back iron,  it seems to have a slightly higher launch than most MB's and out near the toe distance wasn't greatly reduced as it would be with many blade irons.

XF5A4235-Edit

Made with minimal offset and a thin top line the new Docus DCI-702 also has a sharper toe which gives it a unique look at address,  in regards to feel we found them to be just as firm as most blades yet the center struck shot on a traditional MB is a bit more pure at impact.

XF5A4231-Edit

The top line is in the sub 4mm range making it one of the thinner on the market,  and below you get a better visual angle of it's stepped cavity,  while it's not exactly considered parameter weighting it does have a similar approach by creating different levels from thinner near the top line getting thicker and deeper toward the sole.

XF5A4214-Edit

TSG is now offering these in the proshop as heads only or shafted,  basic shaft options are available from the OEM while most customers will be requesting more custom spec'd builds from TSG Club Works.  Base set is 5-PW with optional #4 iron.  Please contact info@tourspecgolf.com for your custom build or you may order directly from the Pro Shop by (clicking here)

XF5A4160-2

Docus DCI701 Forged Irons - If your in the market for a forged players cavity back with more forgiveness than usual here is a new option to consider,  Introducing the new Docus DCI-701 CB.

Featuring a sole wider than a blade with both heel and trailing edge relief the DCI701 also has extra heel relief to help the player not get caught up in the rough which may turn the club face over.  Forged of SS400 steel and hand ground in Ichikawa Japan the overall shape and design of these irons present the golfer with a near blade like appearance yet with a deep enough cavity to keep it in play more than a muscle back would.  For more photos please follow the jump...

XF5A4164

Wider sole than a blade,  heel relief grind + trail/leading edge relief.

XF5A4194-Edit

This top line is thin with a nice neck transition and next to no offset applied.

XF5A4188-Edit-2

It's cavity is pretty deep considering at how compact it is at address.

XF5A4172-Edit-2

Very nice shape face forward,  nice higher neck with a toe that extends well past the grooves.

Zodia Golf Chiba-san

A couple of months ago I posted photos of the extremely rare Roddio MB made by Zodia,  those sold really quickly on TSG and for those who didn't get a set Zodia has the same model iron and shape available with a circle Z logo instead of the R w/ bumble bee as the Roddio model had.  Click Read More to Continue...

Zodia Golf Clubs

Chiba-san of Zodia is known for his sharp toe angles and edges his irons are all hand ground by the man himself with a focus on designs that are compact for athlete golfers.

DSC01963-Edit-2

I've hit many of Zodia's irons and wedges old and new over the years and they usually place an emphasis on a compact appearance,  thin top line, and a firmer feel at impact.

DSC01949-Edit-2

The new Zodia 2015 Limited MB is available 4-PW only and should sell out quickly.  TSG has these available heads only or custom built with nearly endless options.  Heads only run $2400 4-PW so they are pretty pricey. Please inquire with info@tourspecgolf.com if interested.

DSC03806-Edit

This is the latest MB from Toyoshima-san of Crazy Sports,   well actually its been refinished in black boron with red paint fill by TSG Club Works to make it look extra special.  The entire concept around this design is to produce a blade that has extra forgiveness by using somewhat of a cavity along with a slightly thicker sole than most blades have for a better balance of forgiveness and workability.

Made with strong lofts and still a 1 piece S25C hand ground and forged in Japan the new Sbi-02 iron is limited edition with Crazy only producing a small amount every 2 months,  we have not hit or tested this iron yet but to see more beautiful images please follow the Jump or contact info@tourspecgolf.com to order & customize your set...
